WHERE ARE THE BEST JOBS?

May 1st, 2006

The job market is healthy and often you will end up with more than one offer. How do you know which job is best for you. There are several things you should consider:
1. the level of responsibility - often in a smaller company you are give more responsibility
2. chance to learn - never underestimate the value of learning new skills
3. long term goals - you need to ask yourself if this job will give you a foundation for your long term goals
4. culture - how do you “feel” about the company, it is important to follow your instincts
5. money/benefits - only you know what you need to pay your bills. You need to know your bottom line

There is so much more to your decision than the salary. Take time to write down the following BEFORE you start to interview:
1. what has to be there to make you happy?
2. what are your top three priorities in your next opportunity?
3. what are your long range goals?
4. what are your salary and benefit requirements?

Once you have the answers to these questions, you are better prepared to identify an offer that will best suit your current needs. Don’t sell yourself short, but remember to be realistic and look at every aspect of your new offer; the company, the benefits, the skills you will learn and how this sets you up for your future goals!
